The conditions were ideal featuring a warm breeze throughout the game and the course was as tough as usual, with its rolling fairways and swiftly moving greens. Although it was a trial the day remained incredibly pleasurable filled with ample quality golf and, as usual fantastic companionship. The morning began on the chilly side — a touch of home our Scottish members may well have missed while living here in sunny Spain. We were also delighted to welcome several of our overseas members who joined us for the day. Despite the brisk start, everyone made it around the course before the heavens opened. It turned out to be another thoroughly enjoyable outing, full of good golf, questionable golf, and, as always, great company. The day carried on into the evening, where members gathered at the Grill House for our end-of-season dinner and presentation. A big thank you to Rebecca and her staff for making it yet another night to remember. The morning began on the chilly side — the kind of cold that makes you question every life decision that led you to an early morning tee time — but thankfully, the sun eventually showed up to defrost both players and swings. By the afternoon, however, blustery winds swept in and decided to give everyone an impromptu lesson in “creative shot-shaping.” The back nine quickly turned into a test of skill, patience, and in some cases, the ability to laugh at balls travelling in entirely unexpected directions. Despite the ever-changing weather, several players still managed to post impressively high scores, proving once again that optimism — or selective memory — is alive and well within the Society. All told, it was another thoroughly enjoyable outing, full of good golf, questionable golf, and great company. The management and staff at the Marriott Hotel made us feel exceptionally welcome, and the golf courses were in excellent condition. La Sella offers three full 9-hole courses—Llebeig, Gregal and Mestral—each with a completely different layout but all equally challenging. Earlier in the year, the venue proudly hosted the LPGA. The beautifully maintained fairways and strategically placed bunkers provided a true test for our members. Any wayward shots were certainly punished, keeping players on their toes and challenging both skill and patience throughout each round. After the first day’s game, our members enjoyed a wonderful meal in the hotel’s Fusion Thai restaurant. The camaraderie on display during the evening was a perfect reminder of what the Inbetweeners are all about. The following day offered a different combination of courses, but as always, our members were up for the challenge. After the final putt dropped, everyone gathered in one of the hotel’s bars for some well-deserved refreshments and the prize giving. Twos: There were 12 Twos recorded: Inbetweeners Golf Society – 6th Anniversary Celebration at El Plantio This month, we celebrated the 6th year of the Inbetweeners Golf Society with a special day at our home course, El Plantio. The society began back in 2019, when Roger Honey, Colin Yarton, and Peter Wooton—who sadly are no longer with us—started playing together “in between” their regular society games. Their spirit of fun, friendship, and camaraderie on the course soon attracted others to join, and that same ethos continues to define the Inbetweeners today. We marked the occasion with an early start on the Par 3 course, playing 9 relaxed holes before gathering for coffee and snacks. Once everyone was suitably warmed up, we moved on to the main course for the day’s main event. The morning brought perfect golfing weather—warm and sunny—though by the afternoon a strong wind had swept in, making play a little more challenging and sending a few of us ball-hunting in the woods. Perhaps one day, someone really will invent a GPS for golf balls! After the game, we gathered in the clubhouse for a celebratory lunch and prize-giving, rounding off a thoroughly enjoyable day.
