The Inbetweeners at El Plantio – Mundibuilt Trophy This week, members of the Inbetweeners Golf Society were playing for the Multibuilt Texas Scramble Trophy, kindly donated by Multibuilt owner Terry Whitehead. The Society gathered at their home course, El Plantío, for a team Texas Scramble played using Stableford scoring. Every One Is Welcome Teams were thoughtfully balanced, pairing higher-handicap players with lower-handicap members — a combination that proved successful and contributed to some impressive scoring across the field. In true Inbetweeners tradition: As ever, the course was presented in excellent condition. The greens were quick and featured subtle contours, making putting a real challenge. Several players took the opportunity to pick up valuable tips from some of the Society’s more experienced members. In true Inbetweeners tradition, the day proved to be another thoroughly enjoyable occasion — featuring moments of genuine quality, the occasional questionable decision, and, above all, excellent company throughout. This Week Texas Scramble Winners: 1st Place: Playing off a 20 handicap, Team Ruud Van Meggelen alongside Loes Klinkenberg, Bertrand LaFont, and David Perkins, recorded an impressive 54 points. Texas Scramble 2nd Place Team 2nd Place: With a combined handicap of 22, Team Francis Heselmans, featuring Frank Cullen, Mark Leigh, and Markku Niva finished with 49 points. Texas Scramble 3rd Place Team 3rd Place: Playing off 19, Team Lesley Cullen, with Lynn Leigh, Joel Mortiers and new member Malcolm Thomas, secured 47 points on countback. The members of the Inbetweeners Golf Society enjoyed a different type of game this week. We have been fortunate this year to welcome many new members from a variety of countries, and to get to know each other a little better; the original members were paired with the newcomers. This week’s format was a 2-ball Greensome, played in extremely strong winds that ensured jumpers and jackets were firmly held on throughout the round. Despite the blustery conditions, El Plantio was in excellent condition, as always, offering its usual stern test with demanding fairways and lightning-fast greens that kept everyone on their toes. After the game, everyone gathered in the clubhouse for some well-earned refreshments and to congratulate the winners as they received their prizes. All in all, it was another thoroughly enjoyable day for the Society, marked by plenty of good golf and, as always, excellent company — not to mention the opportunity to learn a few new words in foreign languages! The members of the Inbetweeners Golf Society enjoyed another fine game at their home course, El Plantio. A crisp morning provided the perfect start to the day, and as play progressed, the weather warmed up nicely, with jackets and jumpers soon coming off. El Plantio was in excellent condition, offering its usual stern test with demanding fairways and lightning-fast greens that kept everyone honest. The morning started a little chilly – just the taste of home that our Scottish members may well have appreciated during their stay in Spain. We also had several overseas members who joined us for the game. Although there was a good beginning with everyone making it around the course as the conditions proved ideal for playing golf with some low scores registered too, it proved to be another fun-filled experience with good golf, dodgy golf, and of course, great company. This continues into the club house, where members share a drink and a prize awarded to winners. The morning began on the chilly side — a touch of home our Scottish members may well have missed while living here in sunny Spain. We were also delighted to welcome several of our overseas members who joined us for the day. Despite the brisk start, everyone made it around the course before the heavens opened. It turned out to be another thoroughly enjoyable outing, full of good golf, questionable golf, and, as always, great company. The day carried on into the evening, where members gathered at the Grill House for our end-of-season dinner and presentation. A big thank you to Rebecca and her staff for making it yet another night to remember. The morning began on the chilly side — the kind of cold that makes you question every life decision that led you to an early morning tee time — but thankfully, the sun eventually showed up to defrost both players and swings. By the afternoon, however, blustery winds swept in and decided to give everyone an impromptu lesson in “creative shot-shaping.” The back nine quickly turned into a test of skill, patience, and in some cases, the ability to laugh at balls travelling in entirely unexpected directions. Despite the ever-changing weather, several players still managed to post impressively high scores, proving once again that optimism — or selective memory — is alive and well within the Society. All told, it was another thoroughly enjoyable outing, full of good golf, questionable golf, and great company. Despite the shifting weather conditions, several players returned impressively high scores, and the atmosphere throughout the day remained upbeat. Twos: There were 12 Twos recorded: Inbetweeners Golf Society – 6th Anniversary Celebration at El Plantio This month, we celebrated the 6th year of the Inbetweeners Golf Society with a special day at our home course, El Plantio. The society began back in 2019, when Roger Honey, Colin Yarton, and Peter Wooton—who sadly are no longer with us—started playing together “in between” their regular society games. Their spirit of fun, friendship, and camaraderie on the course soon attracted others to join, and that same ethos continues to define the Inbetweeners today. We marked the occasion with an early start on the Par 3 course, playing 9 relaxed holes before gathering for coffee and snacks. Once everyone was suitably warmed up, we moved on to the main course for the day’s main event. The morning brought perfect golfing weather—warm and sunny—though by the afternoon a strong wind had swept in, making play a little more challenging and sending a few of us ball-hunting in the woods. Perhaps one day, someone really will invent a GPS for golf balls! After the game, we gathered in the clubhouse for a celebratory lunch and prize-giving, rounding off a thoroughly enjoyable day.
