Inbetweeners Golf Society: A Day of Sunshine at Alicante Golf Course Inbetweeners Golf Society: Match Report – 23rd April at Alicante Golf Course! This week, members of the Inbetweeners Golf Society gathered at the prestigious Steve Ballesteros–designed golf course in Alicante. We were also delighted to welcome a few new members, alongside the return of some familiar faces to the fairways. With typical wall-to-wall Spanish sunshine and a gentle breeze, conditions were about as perfect as you could hope for. The course was in excellent shape, although the famously tricky par-three holes—guarded by water and well-placed bunkers—required plenty of thought, especially for those with their eye on the prize of that elusive bottle of wine. As ever, with the Inbetweeners, the round delivered a full spectrum of golfing entertainment: moments of brilliance mixed with the occasional shot that would’ve been better left in the bag. The competitive spirit was alive and well, with every missed putt met by a chorus of encouragement (and entirely supportive laughter). A few ambitious recovery shots somehow paid off against the odds, while others only added to the day’s growing collection of “nearly” moments and heroic excuses. Putts were confidently struck, frequently misread, and occasionally celebrated far earlier than was strictly necessary. By the time the final putts dropped, everyone was more than ready to trade scorecards for cold drinks, with talk quickly turning to what might have been, what definitely was, and what would almost certainly be improved next time. Plans for the next outing were already taking shape, as the group reflected on another memorable day where the golf, the banter, and the camaraderie were all firmly on form. In 1st Place, with an impressive 43 points, is Fraser McKay—a fantastic performance that will result in a handicap update! In 2nd Place, just two points behind with 41 points, we have Joel Mortiers. This week, members of the Inbetweeners Golf Society gathered at their home course, El Plantío, for their own slightly less prestigious—but no less fiercely contested—version of the Masters. With wall-to-wall sunshine and a gentle breeze, conditions were as close to Augusta as you’re likely to get without a transatlantic flight. The course was in excellent shape, although the famously tricky greens caused enough confusion to suggest they may have been designed by someone with a personal vendetta—subtle breaks that would have even given Rory McIlroy a quiet mutter. As ever, the round delivered a full spectrum of golfing entertainment: moments of brilliance that briefly sparked dreams of a Green Jacket, mixed in with the occasional shot that would’ve been better off left in the bag. Course management ranged from “bold” to “what on earth was he thinking?”, but confidence remained impressively high throughout. The competitive spirit was alive and well, with every missed putt met by a chorus of encouragement (and entirely supportive laughter). Claims of “that moved at the end” and “I definitely read that right” echoed across the greens with increasing frequency. By the time the final putts dropped, scorecards had been… interpreted, stories had already grown in the telling, and the post-round analysis was in full swing over well-earned refreshments. While no Green Jacket was slipped onto the winner’s shoulders, the bragging rights—and selective memory—were firmly secured. It was delightful to enjoy the typically dependable Spanish sunshine once again. The course was in superb condition, with fairways that posed a solid challenge due to their well-placed bunkers, although the greens did not quite meet the usual high standards. The Inbetweeners at Altorreal The greens presented a swift challenge, characterized by subtle undulations that required both precision in reading and a steady hand for successful putting. In keeping with the spirit of the Inbetweeners, the day turned out to be another delightful gathering for the Society, marked by moments of true excellence, a few questionable choices, and, most importantly, the pleasure of great company throughout. The Inbetweeners at El Plantio – Mundibuilt Trophy This week, members of the Inbetweeners Golf Society were playing for the Multibuilt Texas Scramble Trophy, kindly donated by Multibuilt owner Terry Whitehead. The Society gathered at their home course, El Plantío, for a team Texas Scramble played using Stableford scoring. Every One Is Welcome Teams were thoughtfully balanced, pairing higher-handicap players with lower-handicap members — a combination that proved successful and contributed to some impressive scoring across the field. In true Inbetweeners tradition: As ever, the course was presented in excellent condition. The greens were quick and featured subtle contours, making putting a real challenge. Several players took the opportunity to pick up valuable tips from some of the Society’s more experienced members. In true Inbetweeners tradition, the day proved to be another thoroughly enjoyable occasion — featuring moments of genuine quality, the occasional questionable decision, and, above all, excellent company throughout. This Week Texas Scramble Winners: 1st Place: Playing off a 20 handicap, Team Ruud Van Meggelen alongside Loes Klinkenberg, Bertrand LaFont, and David Perkins, recorded an impressive 54 points. Texas Scramble 2nd Place Team 2nd Place: With a combined handicap of 22, Team Francis Heselmans, featuring Frank Cullen, Mark Leigh, and Markku Niva finished with 49 points. Texas Scramble 3rd Place Team 3rd Place: Playing off 19, Team Lesley Cullen, with Lynn Leigh, Joel Mortiers and new member Malcolm Thomas, secured 47 points on countback. Every One Is Welcome After a week of wet and miserable weather, it was a pleasure to be back out in the usually reliable Spanish sunshine. As ever, the course was presented in excellent condition. The fairways, with their strategically placed bunkers, provided a good test, although the recent rain had left the sand more compact than usual, making escapes from the bunkers slightly more forgiving. The greens were quick, with subtle contours that made putting a real challenge and demanded a steady hand and accurate reading. A civilised late-morning tee time allowed the slightly younger members to loosen up with plenty of practice on the range and putting green, while the more seasoned campaigners opted for a relaxed build-up, enjoying a coffee or two in the warm sunshine. The course was, as ever, presented in magnificent condition and offered its customary stern examination — demanding accuracy from the tee, patience on approach, and, on occasion, a well-tuned sense of humour. Nowhere was this more evident than on the 18th, where the infamous island-style green once again produced plenty of “oohs” and “aahs” as hopeful approach shots attempted to carry the water and find dry land. In true Inbetweeners tradition, it proved to be another thoroughly enjoyable occasion for the Society — featuring moments of genuine quality, the odd questionable decision, and, above all, excellent company throughout. MERIEKA VOLLBREGT 12 34 POINTS FULL DETAILS OF ALL GAMES IN 2026 Match Report La Finca 12th February 2026 Inbetweeners Golf Society: A Day of Sunshine and Strong Winds at La Finca Golf The Inbetweeners at La Finca This week, members of the Inbetweeners Golf Society gathered at La Finca Golf Course to compete for the Orange Casas Trophy, generously sponsored by the owners of Orange Casas, Tracey and Rob Van Der Veer. The course was, as always, presented in excellent condition and provided its customary stern test. Long, wide, undulating fairways and lightning-fast greens would have challenged even the professionals, and the Society’s members were certainly put through their paces. Thankfully, the weather returned to glorious sunshine, although stronger winds made many of the par threes particularly demanding, with reaching the greens in one proving no easy feat. Following the round, members retired to the clubhouse for some well-earned refreshments, where the Orange Casas Trophy was presented to the day’s worthy winner. As ever with the Inbetweeners, it was another thoroughly enjoyable occasion for the Society — featuring plenty of quality golf, a handful of questionable shots, and, above all, excellent company throughout.
